This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 Couldn't seem to find the Digital Color version here。This volume sees the end of the Syrup Village Arc and beginning of the Baratie Arc。 Captain Kuro is defeated by Luffy， the gang receive a ship from Kaya， and Usopp is inducted to the crew。 Deciding they need a cook to accompany them， Luffy's gang happen upon Zoro's old bounty hunter buddies， Johnny and Yosaku， who inform them of the nearby Baratie， a restaurant on the sea， which is bound to provide Luffy with the crewman he seeks。As if intenti Couldn't seem to find the Digital Color version here。This volume sees the end of the Syrup Village Arc and beginning of the Baratie Arc。 Captain Kuro is defeated by Luffy， the gang receive a ship from Kaya， and Usopp is inducted to the crew。 Deciding they need a cook to accompany them， Luffy's gang happen upon Zoro's old bounty hunter buddies， Johnny and Yosaku， who inform them of the nearby Baratie， a restaurant on the sea， which is bound to provide Luffy with the crewman he seeks。As if intentionally paced with the tankoubon collection in mind， Oda ends this series of chapters with Luffy noticing the Baratie chef Sanji delivering free food to an injured man， a crewman of the pirate Don Krieg， and who had previously been kicked out of the Baratie dining room by Patty the cook。 Sanji had been previously seen beating the shit out of an insolent Navy sailor who was taunting Sanji and the restaurant as a whole， and who was himself earlier seen taunting Luffy and co。 aboard the Going Merry。 I know from the old 4kids anime dub that Sanji joins the crew at the end of this arc， but even without foreknowledge it's quite obvious that's what Oda is setting up。 It's perhaps less obvious that Don Krieg will appear shortly， as well as Mihawk， who was teased by Johnny a little while earlier。 If I'm not mistaken， both men appear next volume， but the point is neither appear in the flesh in this book。Moving backward a bit， I may as well address the Syrup Village Arc as a whole， now that it's concluded。 As I said about last volume， Kuro's plan was kind of dumb。 Here， it's built upon somewhat， with Kuro revealing he wanted to rid himself of his infamy， which kind of explains why he wanted to do a long con on Kaya for her money， rather than just kill her， but the plan shits itself and he's forced to take his anger out of his loser crewmates and try to force his resolution by having Django still wring a will out of Kaya， at the threat of murdering Usopp's little dudes， so。。。 I really don't see why he couldn't have just chosen violence to begin with。 Seems unnecessary to go through so much， since the arc itself is too short for us to really feel more "weight" concerning Kuro's motivations。 Sure， we know he's been biding his time for three years， but we don't see all three years ourselves。 We don't have as much reason to care about Kaya and Kuro as Usopp does， and we kinda don't have too much reason to care for Usopp until the very end of the arc， when Merry the butler tells Kaya a story about how Usopp's mother was dying from an illness not unlike Kaya's own， and how he started his "lies" and tall tales to try to make her feel better in her last moments， carrying on his "The pirates are coming！" thing every day for the next several years to honor his mother's memory。 This would be the best comparison to Zoro earlier eating the dirty food Helmeppo stomped into the ground， more interesting than Zoro's actual backstory about Kuina; Kaya provides less pathos than the flashback about Zoro's mother。As for the future of the series， there's a panel where Nami is looking at Johnny's bounty posters and reacts to a silhouette of Arlong， setting up the next arc decently。*****Luffy: "If you dare laugh at Usopp again， I will。。。 kill you all！！"*Chapter 36's panel of Luffy dropping to dodge Kuro was pretty cool**Gum-Gum Spear following from said dodge*Luffy: "I have a friend in this village。。。 that I don't wanna see dead！！！"*Kuro jumping on top of the Gum-Gum Pistol*Kuro: "You still don't understand？ The real purpose of this plan。。。 is to eliminate the name 'Captain Kuro' forever！！"*Kuro breaking Morgan's jaw in a flashback， tying to the earlier Romance Dawn Arc and explaining his metal jaw*Luffy: "You said that you're sick and tired？ If you're afraid of your name being known。。。 then how can you be a pirate？！"*Luffy: "You guys are dumb。 What a bunch of loser pirates。"*random Black Cat crewman: "It's no use！！！ When he's using his 'Silent Step' attack， he can't discern one person from another！！ He's so fast that even he doesn't know what he's attacking！！"*Gum-Gum Bell*the Going Merry ship as a gift from Kaya*Luffy stopping the rolling Usopp by kicking him in the face*flashback of Usopp starting his "The pirates are coming！" thing to cheer up his sick mom made me tear up a bit。。。。**the trio of kids taking up Usopp's morning fake-warning for the village made me choke up on top of the above。。。。*Luffy: "Yup， what a pirate ship crew really needs is。。。 a musician！"**one of the crew members （it isn't clear who）: "Are you retarded！？"*Sanji: "Remember this。。。 Going against a cook on the seas is tantamount to suicide。。。 Don't you dare waste food。。。"*the "Shitsumon o Boshū Suru" omake explaining how Zoro can speak while holding a sword in his mouth: "It's his heart speaking。"*Zeff's "Head Chef's Kick of Justice！！！" in Chapter 44*Luffy: "Haha。。。 Looks like I found a good cook！" 。。。more
